Goal
Create game-speed shooting reps by running the floor, making two quick passes, and finishing with a catch-and-shoot at the far end.
Setup
- 1 starts in the frontcourt on the right wing/corner (shot spot).
- 2 starts on the left sideline around half court as the outlet/middle passer.
- 3, 4, 5 form a line on the near right baseline/corner with balls (next passers).
- Work one ball at a time; the drill is continuous with rotations.
Action
- 3 (baseline) initiates by firing a firm outlet pass up the floor to 2 on the left sideline.
- 2 catches on the move (square early) and immediately throws the second pass diagonally to 1 at the right wing/corner in the frontcourt.
- 1 catches in rhythm (1–2 or hop), gets feet/hips aligned, and takes the shot.
- 1 gets the rebound (or a quick self-retrieve if it’s a swish) and sprints back down the right side to join the baseline line.
Rotations
- 3 → becomes the new outlet: after passing to 2, sprint up the left sideline to replace the outlet spot.
- 2 → becomes the next shooter: after passing to 1, sprint to the right wing/corner in the frontcourt (shot spot).
- 1 → goes to the back of the baseline line after the shot + rebound + full sprint back.
- Next rep starts immediately with 4 as the new baseline passer (then 5, then 1, etc.).
Coaching Points
- Pass quality wins the drill: hit the outside hand, lead the runner, no floaters.
- Sprint the lanes: passer fills outlet; outlet fills shooter spot; shooter sprints back hard.
- Shooter arrives shot-ready: hands up early, feet under hips, quick dip, clean release.
- Outlet should catch-to-throw (no extra dribbles) to keep timing crisp.
Common Mistakes
- Outlet drifting inside (shrinks the passing angle) instead of staying wide on the sideline.
- Shooter standing and waiting instead of timing the arrival to catch on balance.
- Lazy jog back to the line—kills reps per minute and conditioning effect.
- Soft passes that force the receiver to stop/turn.
Variations
- Alternate shot spots: left wing, corner, slot, or trail 3.
- Change finish: 1-dribble pull-up, curl to the middle, or layup.
- Add constraints: “Must make X in a row,” or “Miss = sprint/penalty,” or time-based scoring.
Scoring / Constraints (optional)
- Team goal: 25 makes (or 10 makes per shooter) with no broken rotations.
- Quality rule: if the shooter can’t catch-and-shoot cleanly, the rep doesn’t count.
